Daniel BurgeDaniel Burge, senior research scientist, joined IPI in 1990 and his research focus has been the chemical and physical interactions between imaging media and storage enclosures, including the development and improvement of testing methods. Dan has a BS in Imaging and Photographic Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has taught extensively across the United States and internationally and has published in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals and other publications. Dan is an ANSI recognized expert representing the United States on ISO TC-42 Imaging Materials, as well a member of the American Institute for Conservation’s Materials Working Group.

Jean-Louis BigourdanJean-Louis Bigourdan, senior research scientist, joined IPI in 1994 and his research has focused on the effects of enclosures and microenvironments on photographic film stability and the effects of cycling environmental conditions on library and archives materials. His research contributions led to the development of practical strategies for preserving film collections and most notably the development of FilmCare.org. Currently, his research focus is quantifying the impact of temperature transitions on library and archive materials. In 2016 he received the Silver Light Award for outstanding career achievement in moving image archives from the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) in recognition for his contributions to the field of film preservation.

Al Carver-KubikAl Carver-Kubik, research scientist, joined IPI in 2012 and teaches and conducts preservation research with expertise in print and photographic processes. Al has served as a photographs reviewer for the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Save Our African American Treasures program since 2009. They have a MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Ryerson University in coordination with the George Eastman Museum. Before joining IPI, they worked in museums and galleries as a conservation technician, researcher, object preparator, and archival consultant.

Lisa CerraLisa Cerra, director of operations, joined IPI in 2007 and brings expertise in organizational and administrative management to the research center. Given the array of preservation-related tools and services offered by IPI, ensuring exceptional service and support to customers and colleagues is always a key focus for Lisa. She has an AAS in Business Administration. Prior to joining IPI, she operated a successful small business spanning fifteen years, led the payroll department at Harris RF Communications, and worked as a business analyst at RIT.

Jennifer Jae GutierrezJennifer Jae Gutierrez, executive director, Jennifer Jae Gutierrez joined IPI in 2017. She provides leadership and strategic direction for the research center, with more than fifteen years of experience as a preservation administrator, photograph conservator, and conservation educator. Jae has a MSc in Art Conservation from the University of Delaware specializing in photograph conservation. Prior to her appointment at RIT, Jae was the Arthur J. Bell Senior Photograph Conservator at the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) where she established the institution’s conservation department. She also served as Associate Director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation from 2010-2012.

Lauren ParishLauren Parish, web and publications manager, joined IPI in 2008 and is responsible for the design of IPI’s print publications and online outreach. Lauren has a BS in New Media Publishing from Rochester Institute of Technology. Before joining IPI, she gained experience working creatively with research scientists at the University of Rochester. She uses her creativity and technical expertise to facilitate research and education dissemination to the preservation field.
